Progress!

Making a film all by yourself takes a long time!  But I’ll save the details for some other post.  This is just an update that I’ve finished a rough cut of the film and a final version is soon to follow!  I’m still expecting an initial release on Blu-ray and standard DVD by the beginning of summer.  I’m cutting quite a bit of material from the initial version of the film in order to get it down to a reasonable length so I’ll be posting lots of additional content, outtakes, and making-of material here.  I’m also trying to secure funding for final music licenses and mastering and duplication costs.  So feel free to click on the blue button!

This is some video of a Reef Shark that was cut from one of the initial rough cuts. It was a very overcast day and the visibility wasn’t particularly great (for the Bahamas) but I went out with a friend and brought my camera along.  We were right along the shore off of Staniel Cay and he had speared a Lionfish that we were going to cook up but we were a long ways from the boat and this shark took a keen interest in us. He followed us for a ways and when we eventually dropped the Lionfish, he came right up and ate it. Although beautiful, Lionfish are an invasive species that wreak havoc on the reef ecosystem. They have poisonous spines in several places on their bodies and have no natural predators in the Caribbean. But maybe Reef Sharks will develop a taste for them.  Anyway, couldn’t let any images of a beautiful shark go to waste.  The music is by Simon Wilkinson.

  1. i think you are amazingly talented and I can’t wait to see the final product. You convey the beauty of the area exceptionally. I see IMAX (?) in the future? Susanne, all I can say is WOW- beautiful photography time lapse.

    1. Thanks very much for your comment and kind words! The time-lapses were all shot by myself but Susanna did shoot several of the still photos in the final film.
